Halloween Special 2

While I am working on my Halloween costume, I am also working on a project combining arts, photography and fashion.
With a wide range of costumes, put together with anything I already had at home, and the help of a ->photographer I am about to create a series of photographs.
Although this is around the time of Halloween, I didn't want to focus on typical monsters and a dark, horrific atmosphere.
To make something different, I wanted to experiment with more or less normal clothing or surroundings but give them a surrealistic, dark or simply stunning twist.

I will show some photos on my ->Instagram account and in a sereis of posts on this Blog I will - as always - explain my intentions and techniques of my art.
As my theatre teacher always said, it is not important for an artist, that people will easily understand their artwork. On this Blog, however, I want to inspire people and help them to create their own artworks, so I'll explain a little.

Unexpectedly, it got colder and I had to change my plans. In a warmer outfit, I will show you my recently created hat.

2. "Lady with apple and hat"

Who's this crazy auntie?
To bring out the most awesome hat in the world (my new creation, the fruit hat), I dressed in basic, modern every-day clothes with an elegant touch.
The I went to the market, looked for fruits and ... let the crazy, fun shoot begin!

The Lady with the fruit hat loves fruits and sells them at a market. She is a very serious business woman. Don't try to mess with her precious fruits.

Of course she's also a lady, so she takes her time to look elegant when she walks through the market.

Her taste of fashion is classic and extravagant, the fruit hat is her most special item. Although it looks like a little umbrella...

When she needs a break from all the demanding customers, she rests at a quiet place.

Wait... she secretly eats her own fruits?

She seems to think that noone sees her... Her expressions are not very lady-like here... What a crazy auntie

Omo, now she has been caught! What to do?

At a public place it is simply a given to keep it clean of all garbage:

Halloween Special 1

While I am working on my Halloween costume, I am also working on a project combining arts, photography and fashion.
With a wide range of costumes, put together with anything I already had at home, and the help of a ->photographer I am about to create a series of photographs.
Although this is around the time of Halloween, I didn't want to focus on typical monsters and a dark, horrific atmosphere.
To make something different, I wanted to experiment with more or less normal clothing or surroundings but give them a surrealistic, dark or simply stunning twist.

While I will show some photos on my ->Instagram account, in a sereis of posts on this Blog I will - as always - explain my intentions and techniques of my art.
As my theatre teacher always said, it is not important for an artist, that people will easily understand their artwork. On this Blog, however, I want to inspire people and help them to create their own artworks, so I'll explain a little.

Today, I will show you a concept which is not as outrageous as the ones that will follow, just as a start.

1. "The 10.000$ funeral"

"Her husband died. The celebrity is waiting for the funeral to start."
"Who is she glancing at at the funeral of her husband???"
"Husband of celebrity dies in tragic accident"
"Widow is left with a huge sum of money"

This could be starts of articles in magazines, right? Exactly this is what I intended. My portrayal of a no-name celebrity on the funeral of her "beloved" and extremely rich husband is entirely satirical.
I don't want to critizise any real celebrity on funerals, but rather I chose this extreme example to not only critizise but also SHOW the struggle of celebrities to escape the public eye, their sometimes fake-looking emotions and also the hastily judging press.

To portray a high-class widow, I combined the finest pieces of jewelry and black clothing for my outfit. Of course, sunglasses and dripped mascara had to be included. The old-fashioned fascinator and gloves and overall black clothing give the impression of a widow in grief, whereas the jewelry and bright red lipstick hint to her intention to stand out, still be the centre of attention in the media.

To make these photos appear as normal as possible, as if this ould have really happened, I chose not to include any dramatic effects and also keep the location of the shoot as normal as possible.
The surreal undertone is merely concentrated in the emotion shown on the face which stands in contrast to the suggested context (funeral).
Just once I experimented a little and turned a picture into a negative. A simple change, but I found it worked well with the subject, colours and perspective:

BONUS
After the shoot I went for a coffee. Certainly, I was the centre of attention on this day which was totally a bonus effect to my portrayal of a unspecific celebrity attending private affairs in public.

This part of the project focuses on the subject, theme and interpretation of the pictures rather than on an outstanding look, but in the next few posts I will show you stunning compositions and unbelievable realities ;)

Counting the days to my birthday

I decided to count the days to my birthday with challenges.
3 days before my birthday I did the three marker challenge, which you can wantch on Youtube ^^
I always let my Excel table decide which Copics I had to use, but I delete those I had used once from the list so I would not use the same marker twice.

-> Video

Two days before, I did the two marker challenge.

-> watch it here

Now it's only one day left and I did a one marker challenge. Because it is a bit boring to watch me colouring this in about three minutes :D I just show the picture:
I had to use the G000 Pale Green and I coloured a picture I drew before.

DIY: eye patch (easy)

This is my second halloween DIY for one of my halloween looks. As you must have recognized the make-up I was doing wasn't uploaded yet. There's a simply reason for this: the edit crashed and now the video is a bit broken. I already uploaded it on YouTube but it's private for now. I'm thinking of doing the tutoial one more time but I won't have time for this before november. So I'm asking you if I should set the broken one public so you at last have a guide. Please tell me in the comments!

Now I should start with the DIY:
This is the eye patch of a character I created for a story I'm writing which is kind of similar to Another's Mei Misaki (or Misaki Mei, I don't exactly know) which is also my favourite character. So if you want to cosplay her sometime you easily can make the eye patch yourself!
So this is what you need for this:

  • elastic band
  • cosmetic cotton pads
  • hot or fabric glue
  • white fabric or flet
1. Take two cotton pads and cut two 3x3cm squares

2. Take white fabric or flet and cut two squares which are a little bit bigger than the others.

3. Glue the two cotton squares in the middle of one square of the flet.

4. Now look how long your elastic band should be so you can put it around your ears. Glue the ends on the flet like this:

5. Try it on and mark where you have to glue on the elastic on the upper side.

6. At last glue the other flet on top and you're done!

A variation is the eye patch of a pirate. Therefore you just need other shape, black flet or fabric and a black band:

Next weekend I'll be doing another halloween DIY!

DIY: bat mask (easy)

It's already october so I wanted to do some Halloween DIYs. I just forgot that today is a holiday in germany so i couldn't buy special things to do those. So for today I'm going to use what I already have to create a mask for my following make-up "Vampire Lady" which I'll be doing tomorrow.

What you need:

  • paper and a pencil
  • scissor for Paper
  • tiny scissor
  • cutter
  • glue
  • cardboard (stable)
  • black cardboard or black foam
  • sequins in black and other colours you like
If you want to fix the mask with a headbend you also need elastic but I decided to use a stick because it doesn't squeeze my hair. If you want to create the same bat like me follow the link below and print the image on the entire page or the PDF in the actually size.
You don't need to have an account on dropbox for this, you can just skip the log-in and download it. On the top there is the shape for the bat and below it is the shape I started with if you want your mask look different.
So let's start with the first step! You can skip the first parts if you use the download.

1. Print the shape of the mask or draw one yourself and cut it out. Hold it in front of your face so you know if you have correct the shape, size or the eyes.
This is the shape I started with:

2. I drew that on a second paper so I easily could change the shape and create a bat. I also made the eyes bigger so I can see better when I have it on.

3. Fold it half so both sides of your mask look the same, then cut it out.

4. If you want to use a cutter to cut out the eyes then make sure to practise first because it is a bit tricky. If your cutter skills are worse like mine, cut out a little shape in the middle of the eye and cut it out with a tiny scissor.

5. Cut a bat out of the stable cardboard and one out of the black cardboard or the foam, which I was using.

6. Glue it together. Make sure that it looks good and no part of the stable cardboard looks out, then let it dry for a few minutes. If you're using a headbend glue it between the both bats so you can't see the elastic.

7. Pimp the mask with sequins or whatever you like to use.

8. Normally you would glue the stab on the back now, but since i couln't go to the supermarket to buy some I must wait till next week...

Now you're done! This is a really easy DIY, just to glue all these sequins on really does take a lot of time. If I had gel glitter I also woul've given the bat teeth and eyes :/
Tomorrow I'll be filming the make-up which is matching this mask. Honestly, it will be the first time for me to do the entire make-up. Normally I just draw my eyes or use some powder, but I hope it will work!

Let me know if you want to do this DIY too ;)
